Mod Podge Mania

Over at This is The yearthere's a little mod podge party! I really wanted to be able to create something new, but there's just too much going on this week! I've been painting all our trim and baseboards in the house, some doors, and great new shelves Edwin built in our laundry room (I'll post after pictures once we're done!) Edwin and I are heading out of town tonight, so I'm trying to get all the laundry done today and things in order before we leave. SOOOOO, here's a little mod podge project I did after Easter! It was my first attempt, so it's not great; but I'm proud! haha.

I bought a plain white Easter sign on clearance at Hobby Lobby, and found some scrapbooking paper for $.40.
I haven't perfected the mod podge technique, but I'm getting there!

If you're crafty or want to be crafty, check out Xazmin at This is the Year, for more mod podge inspiration!

Reese's birthday party

Over the weekend, we all went to a family members birthday party. Reese turned 4! The rain held up, for the most part, and we were all able to enjoy the sun and play outside. The kids went wild with colored hair spray, silly string, rub on tattoos, face painting, and a jumpy house. We had a great time! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day. I know those of you that are family members, will enjoy seeing family pictures!

Me with Kai and Keira
Keira giving me a tattoo. I look mad, but I'm just concentrating so it doesn't hurt...
Reese turning Keira into a kitty (somebody re did it later!)
Keira giving Edwin a tattoo (she decided she wants to be a tattoo artist when she grows up. I'm a bit concerned by this. haha)
Keira turning Edwin into a puppy (in case you can't tell)
My kitty and puppy
Kade and Kai; the color is starting to sweat off Kai
Edwin gave me blue tips. So hip. haha.
Maddi giving Edwin blue hair
Reese getting Kade with silly string!
About to sing to the birthday girl
Yummy!

Frugal Find

I found a great frugal find today! I was out and about, and stumbled into World Market wasting some time. I got a large Easter wreath for $2 bucks; originally $20. I got a few smaller birds nests for $.69/for two. How great is that!? The only sad thing, is I have to wait until next Easter to use it! I love after holiday sales. Head over to the Shabby Nest for other frugal finds, and get some inspiration to turn trash into treasure!

I also have to share this. My hubby came home yesterday with these beautiful orange roses! My husband rocks!

Pictures of our floors

I'm so glad this is all over with. So glad. I've been cleaning up this morning, and trying to put some things back where they belong! We still have a few things to hang up, but we're pretty much done with everything. Now I want to paint our kitchen cabinets since the floors are so much nicer! I think the nicer floors make the cabinets look like poo poo. I dont know that we're ready to take on another project yet! Maybe someone will love our house and buy it; the way it is and everything we've put into it!  Here are some pictures of our floors and updates! I"m not including the guest bath, the kid's room, or the playroom.  Hopefully we'll get this baby on the market soon and we'll find jobs in Dallas, and move forward!

Our family room

Our new fireplace! You should have seen it before. We put our TV armoire over it.
Our laundry room. It looks so much better! There were built in shelves to the left (you cant see it), and Edwin ripped those out. He might attempt to build something there; like a pottery barn locker/shelf system. Ya know?! Amazing
Our master bath

The entry/front door (we haven't put anything back on the walls here; we're not sure what we're going to do yet)
Our kitchen and dining; we're blessed with a large kitchen

Whew! It's over! Thank you for reading and encouraging me through this process!

Kai's unbirthday

Kai's kindergarten class has "unbirthdays" for all the summer birthdays! Today was Kai's day, so I made baseball cookies for him and his class. The pictures and recipe are over at my cooking blog; "Ya Get What Ya Get, and Ya Don't Throw a Fit".

The kids loved the cookies and they all kept hugging Kai and telling him thank you. It was so cute! Kai was thrilled to show off the baseball cookies and have his mama there. Of course that made me feel all warm and fuzzy! Here are some video's I took of Kai's teacher giving him birthday spanks and everyone singing. Notice when Kai throws up a longhorn hand sign. His teacher is an Aggie fan, and Kai likes to tease her.

I can't figure out if it's a good thing or a bad thing, that the front desk administration know me and the boys by name....

Just enjoy reading my list, and do it if you want to!

Laundry, cooking, and cleaning; not today!

This is day two on the work, of our new floors! Our house is such a mess; much more than when the painters were here. ALL of our kitchen appliances and decor are in our family room; dining table and chairs, stove, and our refrigerator. At least the refrigerator is still plugged in! Our garage is still filled with stuff and now our washer and dryer (no laundry, cooking, or cleaning for me!).  I don't know about you, but I don't feel completely comfortable leaving the house all day, with other people in my house. One of the reasons is the garage door is open (its easier for them to carry all the materials in the house that way) and our garage is filled with so much of our furniture and things! I just don't want anybody to walk by and see a nice full garage; ya know?!

The demo in the dining room/eat in kitchen. Apparently there were three different floors.
This is our bathroom. Edwin needed a jacket at Kai's baseball game (it was chilly and raining!). We couldn't get to our closets.
Can I get you a drink?
Tonight we're going to have a nice family dinner, around the dining room table.
Kade's trying to figure out how to get a snack. (they pulled everything away from the wall, so the furniture looks even more cramped)

AH!
Today they're going to finish laying the tile in here, and put the grout in.
At least my bedroom is back together, and my bed is made!
I can't wait for everything to be done! I think they're starting the wood in the family room on Saturday.  I have a bad feeling, we're all going to be confined to our master bedroom tomorrow! The kids won't be able to get to their rooms since the floor is being laid all down the hall by their bedrooms. This will be interesting (as if this process hasn't already been interesting enough!)

Stay tuned for more pictures and finished rooms!

My new cake dome

For the past week, I've been staring at the front door and awaiting the arrival of my new cake dome! It's a present from my mom (THANK YOU!). Who doesn't like getting packages and mail?! Edwin receives a lot of books and magazines in the mail, and sometimes he writes my name on the package, so I can "pretend" its for me! haha.

I dont have anything to put in it yet, or a cake to bake; but I had some fake apples that will work for now! Do you have a cake stand or dome? If so, how do you decorate or use it?

I love it!
Here are some inspirational pictures I"ve saved, to get my creative juices flowing...
